With the worsening conditions in war torn areas of eastern Ukraine over the past two years, thousands of Ukrainian refugees have fled into adjacent countries like Poland, Moldova, and Romania.
Patients treated: Approximately 10 000
Ambulance Clinics: 2
Volunteer medics and support staff: 25
Moldova Refugee population: Around 100 000
Our mobile clinic project in Southern Ukraine turned out to be huge success this year, and provided simple but effective medical support for many refugees living in difficult circumstances in the rural communities.
Lead by Daria Havresciuc a local clinical Psychologist and her husband Pastor Abel Havresicuc, the clinics were operated by international volunteer doctors and nurses. We worked in collaboration with the World Health Organization, IOM and the Moldova Department of Health. Our two donated ambulances circulated through the villages throughout the region, treating patients in homes, schools, dormitories and libaries. The services we provided ensured that the elderly, disabled, and the many with chronic diseases were able to access the healthcare they needed.
The project was completed in July this year. Both the ambulances were donated to the municipality of Cahul, and are now used by the local hospital.
We would in particular like to thank Ms Stella Arteni, the vice mayor of Cahul Municipality for her support and for being such a key component to the success of this intervention.
