Patients seen over the past year: Approximately 42 000 including 15 000 Children
Patients seen daily: 150 – 200 including up to 50 children
Cases of malaria treated: 20 000
Refugee population: 125 000 Congolese refugees
North Kivu is one of the most unstable and dangerous regions on the planet, due to the violence perpetrated by rebel groups. The region is dubbed the “rape capital of the world”, due to the high levels of sexual violence perpetrated by militia on communities throughout the region.
The ADRA clinic in Kyaka 2 was set up in 2018 through a partnership between AdventRelief (then Adventist Help) and ADRA Uganda. Currently the clinic is run by ADRA Uganda and the Ishaka Adventist Hospital, and their small but capable team are treating hundreds of refugees every day.
The region is a complex one medically, with the burden of disease being due to dangerous infectious diseases like malaria.
The facility is extremely busy, and is currently facing major challenges in funding. We are exploring options with ADRA Uganda to find international donors and to open our medical volunteer program to international doctors and nurses to assist the local medical team on the ground.
